How to use Email Lists to Grow your Business

Subscribing to company updates through email is growing due to the popularity of the internet.  Businesses see an easy and inexpensive way to lend their voice and ideas to current and interested customers.  Customers see an easy way to keep up with their favorite companies in a convenient location.  Businesses are seeing this convenience as a profit-enhancing strategy.  The key is to make your email list strategy good enough for more customers to want to join.

Just like a mailing list, everyone on an email list subscribes to newsletters, e-zines, coupons, special offers, company information, and more.  Create a customized, business-centered email subscription with a message delivered faster than snail mail.  This email is sent to the subscriber’s inbox daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.  Pick an email frequency that is suitable for your audience.  For example, some email list subscribers might enjoy receiving a daily email for great deals; others may not.  The email list will expand your network, create business opportunities, educate customers about your business, and increase trust and credibility.

The way you obtain an email list comes in many forms:

  • landing page
  • website
  • social media
  • business cards
  • on blogs
  • confirmation / thank you emails
  • confirmation / thank you web pages
  • job interviews
  • employees / cashier
  • speeches
  • email signature

Take these strategy samples and make an irresistible offer.  Freebies are a great example of building an email list.  Who doesn’t love free?  There are also many more strategies out there to build an email list.  Be creative.  However, make sure you ask for permission to email them.  No one likes to get a subscription that wasn’t expected.  Make sure there’s a way for customers to opt-out.  You can get more information by reading the CAN-SPAM Act.

Remember, running a business successfully does not need to be complicated.  Keep it simple!
